Steelers to Sign WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to Practice Squad, Reuniting Him With Aaron Rodgers

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · City · GSM News

Pittsburgh is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Steelers, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, are adding depth at wide receiver. Multiple outlets, including The Athletic, reported on the evening of October 19 that the Steelers will sign 31-year-old veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and that he will begin on the practice squad.

It is another reunion between Valdes-Scantling and quarterback Aaron Rodgers: the two played together in Green Bay from 2018 to 2021, when he caught 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also joined the Steelers midway through last season, catching 10 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in five games, plus three more receptions in the playoffs, and he won two Super Bowl rings with the Kansas City Chiefs. This season he had stints with the Cowboys and the Chargers, appearing in three games for the Chargers with two catches for 22 yards before being released over the weekend.

The move addresses an injury-hit receiver room: Michael Pittman Jr. (foot) is on injured reserve until at least Week 10, Roman Wilson (finger) until at least Week 11, and Ben Skowronek missed Sunday's game with a calf injury, leaving DK Metcalf and rookies Germie Bernard and Kaden Wetjen among the receivers on the active roster.
