California DOJ Helps Clovis Police Target Human Trafficking: Nine Arrested in Two-Day Operation, One Suspect Wanted

In Clovis, a city in Fresno County, California, the California Department of Justice assisted the Clovis Police Department and Breaking the Chains, a local anti-trafficking nonprofit, in a two-day undercover operation on October 16-17 targeting human traffickers and child predators; nine suspects were arrested. Eight of 10 suspects were arrested without incident at locations around Clovis. One suspect failed to pull over and led officers on a pursuit that ended in a five-vehicle collision; three adults complained of pain and were treated at the scene, and an infant was taken to a hospital as a precaution. The suspect ran from the collision but was captured a short distance away; the Fresno Police Department investigated the crash because it occurred in its jurisdiction. Another suspect, Kyle Riechel, 36, of Fresno, evaded officers and is wanted on several felony charges. During the operation, multiple human trafficking victims were offered assistance from Breaking the Chains. Those arrested face charges including pandering, soliciting prostitution, and contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual act.
