Michigan Senate Nominees Rogers and El-Sayed Take Economic Club Stage in Detroit, Fielding Same Questions Separately

In Detroit, a city in Wayne County, Michigan, Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, the nominees for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat, appeared separately at a Detroit Economic Club luncheon forum at the Masonic on October 20, answering the same questions from moderator Jason Colthorp of WDIV, the Detroit Free Press and WCMU reported.
Both criticized Trump's tariffs on Canada as harmful to Michigan and faulted free trade agreements. Rogers emphasized tax cuts, skilled trades education and a land bank for Detroit's idle parcels; El-Sayed backed antitrust enforcement, short-term rental regulation and an SI regulator.
The seat opened with Senator Gary Peters's retirement, and the election is November 3. The two meet again in a second debate on the evening of October 21 on WXYZ-TV.
