Final Michigan Senate Debate Tonight: El-Sayed and Rogers Face Off in Detroit

Michigan's U.S. Senate race comes to its final head-to-head clash tonight. Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers will meet at 7 p.m. ET on Oct. 21 in the WXYZ-TV studios in Detroit for their second and final debate of the campaign. The two first clashed on Oct. 8 at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, in an exchange described as heated throughout. The race will fill the seat of retiring Sen. Gary Peters and could decide control of the Senate. Polling averages show El-Sayed with a small lead.
In the final week, both sides are getting heavyweight help: former President Obama is due in Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 24, to campaign for El-Sayed and other Democrats, while President Trump will travel to St. Clair County on Sunday, Oct. 25, for Rogers. Tonight's debate is moderated by WXYZ editorial director Chuck Stokes with anchors Carolyn Clifford and Alicia Smith, streamed live on freep.com and aired on WXYZ Channel 7 and Fox 17 in Grand Rapids. El-Sayed is a former Wayne County and Detroit health director; Rogers is a former U.S. representative. Election Day is Nov. 3.
