Corona Police Foil High School Shooting Plot: Two 15-Year-Old Girls Arrested After Months of Researching School Shootings

CORONA — Police in Corona, Riverside County, California, said in a news release on Tuesday, October 20, that the FBI and the Corona Police Department had foiled a plotted shooting attack at Corona High School, arresting two 15-year-old girls on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.
The investigation began on October 6, when the FBI notified the Corona Police Department that it had identified social media communications concerning a possible threat to Corona High School, police said. A 15-year-old female student at the school was arrested. During the investigation, detectives served numerous search warrants for electronic devices and communications and searched several residences in Riverside County, identifying and arresting a second suspect, a 15-year-old female student at nearby Norco High School.
"The evidence obtained showed the two suspects had spent several months researching school shootings and discussed how they could carry out a potential attack at Corona High School on an unspecified future date," police said. Communications showed the suspects discussed methods to obtain weapons but had not been able to do so, and no weapons were located during the searches. Both girls remain in custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder while the Riverside County District Attorney's Office reviews the case. Police have not named the suspects, who are minors.
FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement reported by ABC News that authorities had "disrupted" a potential targeted attack against a Southern California high school before anyone was injured. "There is no greater priority than protecting our kids, and threats against our schools will be met with the full force of the FBI and our partners," Patel said.
The investigation continues with the FBI, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office and the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Anyone with information can contact Corona Police Detective George Edwards at 951-279-3656. Corona High School enrolls more than 2,000 students in grades 9 through 12; Corona is a Riverside County city about 47 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
