Guyana's President Ali at the Pentagon: U.S. and Guyana Sign Joint Declaration on Enhanced Defense Partnership

The Department of War announced that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth met on October 21 at the Pentagon with Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, and that the two leaders signed a landmark joint declaration for an enhanced defense partnership that will increase security across the Caribbean.
The department said Hegseth thanked President Ali for Guyana's regional leadership in countering narcoterrorism as a founding member of the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition. President Ali emphasized his appreciation for the strong and enduring defense partnership between the United States and Guyana, and the two discussed ways to improve interoperability across their armed forces and increase defense industrial base resilience.
In his welcoming remarks, Hegseth said countries across the region look to Ali's leadership, that the defense partnership has "only just begun," and that Washington has reviewed Guyana's request for U.S. military support in combined counter-narcotics operations. Ali said the region has spoken about security and stability for a long time and that "this is the era of action," adding that Guyana is happy to be part of the partnership and that long-term prosperity requires a region free from narco-trafficking and terrorism.
