Follow-Up: NFLPA Demands Full Investigation Into Handling of Jalen Hurts' Blood Clot, Clashing With the NFL

The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) wrote to Commissioner Roger Goodell on October 20 demanding a full investigation into the handling of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' blood clot, covering whether team and league medical staff followed protocol at each step of diagnosis, evaluation and return-to-play clearance.
NFLPA interim executive director Lloyd Howell Jr. said in a statement that player health cannot yield to the schedule and that the union wants an independent review of all medical decisions in the case. The Eagles responded that player health is the team's top priority and that Hurts' care involved the medical staff throughout.
The NFL said the case followed league injury protocols and that the medical decisions were reviewed by the joint league-union medical committee. The dispute is whether the matter requires the full investigation the union demands, or whether, as the league maintains, existing protocols were followed and no separate inquiry is needed.
GSM previously reported that Hurts injured his ribs and briefly left the October 19 game against Washington, was then diagnosed with a blood clot and evaluated, and that the team listed his playing status as uncertain. The investigation demand is the latest development; its timetable has not been announced.
