Irvine: City Council Approves Five-Year Great Park Stadium Deal; a Professional Baseball Team Arrives in Summer 2027

In Irvine, Orange County, California, the Irvine City Council has approved a five-year agreement with Innovation Baseball Partners (IBP) to bring a professional baseball team to the Great Park Championship Baseball Stadium starting in the summer of 2027. The team, not yet named, will join IBP's three other teams in the Pioneer Baseball League, a Major League Baseball partner league. Under the deal, IBP pays all day-to-day operating costs, including staffing, game production, concessions and facilities, and receives stadium naming rights plus advertising and sponsorship sales. The city receives 50 percent of net naming-rights revenue and 15 percent of advertising revenue, keeps parking operations and fees, and gets at least $25,000 a year for community programs such as youth baseball clinics and camps. The city estimates the deal will bring the Great Park just over $365,000 a year. It is modeled on the Orange County Soccer Club partnership at the Great Park since 2021, and the OC Riptide and community teams will keep their access to the stadium.
