Burbank, California — Walt Disney Studios announced on October 20 that Christopher Nolan's 2006 mystery thriller The Prestige will return to select theaters beginning January 29, 2027, for the film's 20th anniversary. The re-release will present the film on 70mm film and in IMAX for the first time, alongside 35mm and Digital 2D presentations. The studio released an official announcement trailer and a new poster with the news.
"I'm very excited to bring The Prestige back to the big screen, and particularly thrilled to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film, and on Imax for the first time," Nolan said in a statement accompanying the announcement. The film was originally shot anamorphically on 35mm by cinematographer Wally Pfister, and the 70mm and IMAX versions were produced by converting the original photography.
Based on Christopher Priest's novel, The Prestige stars Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as rival stage magicians whose obsession with each other's secrets escalates into deceit and sabotage. Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis and David Bowie co-star. Released in 2006, the film earned more than $109 million worldwide against a reported $40 million budget and was nominated for two Academy Awards, for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
