Once Human's Largest Free Expansion, Isles of Abyss, Launches on PS5 October 22 With Five Oceanic Regions
The development team behind the survival game Once Human announced via the official PlayStation.Blog on October 21 that Isles of Abyss, the game's largest free expansion yet, will launch on PlayStation 5 on October 22 (October 21 Pacific Time). The expansion is free to play, and players can download the base game from the PlayStation Store in advance.
The expansion moves the action to the open sea, adding five brand-new oceanic regions. Players start on a starter island and may explore the remaining four regions in any order. In the expansion's fiction, the entire ocean is a conscious entity known as the Sunken Lord, with dynamic threats including mysterious fog, black tides and temporal fire rain; players must defeat regional bosses anchored in colossal towers before confronting the Sunken Lord itself.
A second core feature is the Mobile Sea Fortress: starting from a wooden raft, players can build, customize and upgrade their vessel into a floating base, workshop and artillery platform, and can team up with friends to form player fleets. Resources gathered on islands fuel naval technology and heavy weaponry, while deep-sea exploration unlocks materials that enhance land-based gear, including dives into sunken ruins.
The PS5 version is tailored to the console, with DualSense haptic feedback conveying waves and naval impacts, adaptive triggers adding resistance to naval cannons and grappling lines, and fast SSD loading enabling seamless transitions between land, sea and underwater exploration.
