San Bernardino County Proclaims November 1 as ONT Day as Ontario International Airport Marks a Decade of Local Control

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · California · GSM News

Ontario International Airport (ONT), in Ontario, San Bernardino County, California, announced on October 21 that the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors had on Tuesday proclaimed November 1 of each year as "ONT Day," honoring the airport's return to local control and the determination and collaboration of the City of Ontario, San Bernardino County, and regional leaders who worked for years to reclaim the airport and establish a locally governed aviation gateway.

Resolutions recognizing the airport have also been advanced at the state level by Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez of the 53rd District and State Senator Susan Rubio. Ontario International Airport formally returned to local control on November 1, 2016, and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the transfer.

Dr. Ronald O. Loveridge, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) Board of Commissioners, said that day changed the trajectory of the airport and, in many ways, of the Inland Empire itself, and that what began as a bold effort to return a vital regional asset to local control has become one of Southern California's great success stories. He thanked the Board of Supervisors, Assemblymember Rodriguez and Senator Rubio for recognizing the achievement.

Since the transfer of ownership, the airport says it has significantly expanded domestic and international air service, strengthened its position as a major global logistics hub and earned national recognition for its passenger experience. Annual passenger volume has grown from approximately 4.2 million in 2016 to more than 7 million today.
