The City of Ontario, in San Bernardino County, California, announced on October 20 that the family-owned Porto's Bakery & Café will open its first location in the Inland Empire in the city.

Founded in 1960 by Rosa Porto and now run by the family's second and third generations, Porto's is a Southern California favorite known for signature items such as the Cheese Roll® and Potato Ball®, alongside Cuban-rooted dishes. The city said the Ontario location will bring the Porto's experience closer to residents throughout the Inland Empire, create new jobs and add a major new dining destination to the city.

The bakery will be part of a new 8.6-acre commercial development at the southwest corner of Archibald Avenue and Inland Empire Boulevard, near the I-10 Freeway. The site will feature approximately 50,000 square feet of commercial space across three buildings, with a mix of restaurant, café and retail uses, connected by a landscaped outdoor plaza with water features, outdoor dining and gathering spaces. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the bakery projected to open in 2028.

Jennifer McLain Hiramoto, Executive Director of the City of Ontario Economic Development Agency, said the Porto's-anchored destination will bring hundreds of local jobs and draw thousands of visitors each day, transforming a site that has remained vacant for years. City Manager Scott Ochoa said the city has been working to bring Porto's to the community for nearly a decade and is proud it chose Ontario for its first Inland Empire location.

Raul Porto, CEO of Porto's Bakery & Café, said guests from across the Inland Empire have traveled to its bakeries for years and the family is excited to finally have a home there, thanking Ontario for its warm welcome. The city said additional details about the Ontario location will be announced as plans move forward. (Based on the City of Ontario's October 20 press release.)
