Riverside County Supervisors Vote 5-0 for About $10.2 Million to Restore Hidden Valley Wildlife Area After Bain Fire

In Jurupa Valley, Riverside County, California, the Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 on Tuesday, October 20, to spend about $10.2 million on the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area Bain Fire Remediation and Restoration Project. The 1,500-acre preserve, in the 11400 block of Arlington Avenue along the Santa Ana River bottom, lost more than 1,000 acres to the Bain Fire in May. The money comes from internal accounts of the Regional Parks and Open Space District, not the county General Fund. The work covers emergency safeguard repairs (signage, fencing, trails and hillside stabilization), playground equipment replacement, and design documents for restoring the Nature Education Area, including trails, bridges, outdoor classrooms and shade structures. After the fire, the Hidden Valley Nature Center was repaired with volunteer help and reopened about a month later, and one Santa Ana River Trail system route reopened at the end of June; other areas remain unsafe and closed.
