Murrieta Planning Commission Recommends Landmarking Hot Springs Resort as a Local Cultural Resource With Mills Act Eligibility

MURRIETA, California — The Planning Commission of Murrieta, in Riverside County, California, voted 4–0 on October 14 to recommend that the City Council designate the Murrieta Hot Springs Resort as a local cultural resource and find it eligible for a Mills Act contract, under Chapter 16.26 of the city's Development Code.
The Mills Act is California's historic-preservation mechanism under which a city contracts with a property owner who commits to restoring and maintaining a historic property in exchange for property-tax relief. If the council adopts the recommendation, the hot springs resort would join Murrieta's locally protected cultural resources. The commission's recommendation now goes to the City Council for a final decision. (GSM, based on Murrieta Planning Commission meeting records)
