New Orleans Reminds Eligible Seniors of Reduced Sanitation Charge: $10 a Month for Qualifying Households

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — The City of New Orleans, in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, is reminding senior residents that qualifying households may be eligible for a reduced sanitation charge of $10 per month. To qualify, residents must be 65 or older, be the head of household, and have a household income that does not exceed federal low-income guidelines. The reduced charge is granted for 12 months at a time, and eligible residents must apply and renew annually, providing documentation of age and household income.
A City Council-approved sanitation fee reset took effect on October 1, setting regular curbside collection at $32.25 per month for residential addresses. 'Our seniors have contributed to this city for decades, and we want to make sure those who qualify for this protection know that it is available to them,' said Mayor Helena Moreno. Details and application information are available from the city. (GSM, based on the City of New Orleans release)
