Residents Oppose Data Center Pitch at State-Owned Fairgrounds Near Perris: City Says the Land Is Outside Its Jurisdiction

PERRIS, California — Near Perris, in Riverside County, California, the state-owned Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of the Southern California Fair, has become a point of contention: at a recent fair board meeting, residents spoke out against a proposed memorandum of understanding with data center company Global Stack, objecting to a data center on the state-owned land. The board took no action at the meeting, and a board member said the MOU would return on future agendas for discussion.
The City of Perris told local media the fairgrounds sit just outside the city limits and the city has no jurisdiction over development there, and it did not comment on the Global Stack proposal. Earlier this month, the Perris City Council voted unanimously to ban data centers within the city; that ban applies only inside city limits and does not reach the state-owned fairgrounds. Board members noted the council's action at the meeting and said it would be taken into consideration as discussions continue. (GSM, based on The Riverside Record reporting)
