The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Los Angeles/Oxnard issued a Flash Flood Warning at 11:24 a.m. on October 22 for east central Los Angeles County, California, in effect until 2 p.m. the same day. The warning covers the cities of San Dimas, Glendora, Pomona, La Verne and Claremont in east central Los Angeles County, and includes the central and southern parts of the Bridge Fire burn scar.

The weather service said Doppler radar at 11:24 a.m. indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area, with an expected rainfall rate of 0.5 to 1 inch in one hour, and that flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly. In addition to flash flooding, rock slides, mud slides and minor debris flows are possible, the NWS said. Locations that may experience flash flooding include small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. The warning text contains no evacuation order.

The autumn storm moved into Southern California on October 21. The NWS had earlier issued a Flood Watch for the Malibu Coast and the Santa Monica Mountains recreational areas through 4 p.m. on October 22, saying rain rates there could also reach 0.5 to 1 inch per hour and that extensive street flooding was possible. Flood Advisories were also in effect late Thursday morning for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties until 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. A Special Weather Statement issued at 11:19 a.m. said strong showers and thunderstorms would continue across southern and eastern Los Angeles County, with wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-size hail, listing San Dimas, Glendora, Pomona and La Verne among the locations impacted. At 10:26 a.m., the NWS had issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southeastern Los Angeles County, where a storm near Whittier brought 60 mph wind gusts and penny-size hail, with a tornado possible.

In the warning, the NWS said most flood deaths occur in vehicles and urged drivers to turn around when encountering flooded roads and to follow directions from emergency management, law enforcement and fire agency officials. As of about noon, no official reports of casualties or damage tied to this warning had been released; whether the warning is extended or allowed to expire will be determined by later NWS updates.
