U.S. Democratic Congressional Nominee Brad Lander Detained by Israeli Authorities in West Bank While Accompanying Olive Harvest
JERUSALEM — Brad Lander, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives, was detained by Israeli authorities in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday while accompanying Palestinian farmers harvesting olives, Reuters reported. About 90 individuals were detained that day, according to Rabbis for Human Rights, an Israeli rights group.
Lander, a Jewish American, is a former New York City comptroller and mayoral candidate who has criticized Israel's war in Gaza. He is the Democratic Party's nominee for New York's 10th congressional district and will contest next month's U.S. congressional midterm elections. He is an ally of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
There was no immediate comment from Israel Police or the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.
