Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, on Oct. 22 reported fall 2026 enrollment of 12,119 students, a 5% increase over the previous year and a sixth consecutive enrollment record — the first time in the university's 159-year history that enrollment has surpassed 12,000, making Morgan the nation's third-largest Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The university added more than 1,300 students over the past two years and received 30,262 completed undergraduate and graduate applications for fall 2026.

Morgan welcomed 2,318 new first-year students this fall. Graduate enrollment reached an all-time high of 2,143 students, a 7% increase over fall 2025, including 489 new graduate students. Transfer enrollment rose approximately 12%, and the retention rate reached 78%, matching a level last achieved in 2014. Morgan enrolled 3,613 Black male undergraduate and graduate students, a 10.3% increase over the previous year, now roughly 30% of the student body.

During the 2025-26 academic year, Morgan conferred nearly 1,900 degrees, the largest graduation total in school history.

President David K. Wilson said crossing the 12,000-student threshold is an extraordinary milestone, but what excites him most is what lies beneath the number, and that six consecutive years of record enrollment show the university's transformation and ascendancy are resonating.
