National Parks Free on October 27 for Theodore Roosevelt's Birthday: Only Two Fee-Free Days Left in 2026

Under the National Park Service's 2026 fee-free day calendar, every National Park Service site that charges an entrance fee will waive it on Tuesday, October 27, in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt's birthday. It is the ninth of the agency's 10 fee-free days in 2026; only Veterans Day, November 11, remains after it.
Under rules that took effect in 2026, the waiver applies to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only; nonresident visitors pay the regular entrance fee on fee-free days. Only entrance fees are waived — camping, reservation and special-use fees still apply.
Regular vehicle entrance fees at national parks generally run from $10 to $35: a seven-day vehicle pass is $35 at both Yellowstone and Yosemite, and a one-day vehicle pass is $30 at Rocky Mountain. The America the Beautiful annual pass for U.S. residents costs $80 and covers entrance and standard day-use fees at federal recreation lands.
Roosevelt, known as the "conservation president," established five national parks and 18 national monuments and placed roughly 230 million acres of public land under protection. The Roosevelt Arch at Yellowstone's North Entrance is named for him.
