California Poll: San Francisco and San Jose Mayors Little Known Statewide, Los Angeles Mayor's Favorability Under Pressure

A statewide survey conducted by the Citrin Center at UC Berkeley in collaboration with POLITICO found that San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan remain little known among voters statewide, while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass posted weak favorability numbers statewide, according to Politico, which summarized the findings as the two Bay Area mayors being 'unknown' and Bass 'unpopular.'
The poll was conducted by TrueDot online in English and Spanish from October 9 to 14, 2026, among 1,149 California registered voters, including 909 likely voters, with a separate survey of 213 policy influencers. Other results from the same poll released earlier showed 36% of registered voters rating Governor Gavin Newsom's overall performance as excellent or good, and 62% rating it fair or poor. This report relays only the polling facts published by the sponsors and Politico's reported conclusions. Note: the specific favorability percentages for Lurie, Mahan and Bass were not fully available in publicly indexed Politico material, and no unverified figures are used here.
