Culver City: The Plunge Municipal Pool Announces Closure Schedule, Including a One-Day Staffing Closure on October 25

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · California · GSM News

The City of Culver City, in Los Angeles County, California, has announced closure arrangements for its municipal pool, The Plunge, at 4175 Overland Ave. Due to a staffing shortage, the pool will be closed for one day on Sunday, October 25, and the city says adequate staffing is essential to operate the facility safely.

According to Culver City News' report on the city's presentation at the September 28 City Council meeting, The Plunge will then close for about six weeks starting December 19 and running through January for maintenance, including repairing damaged pool tiles, replacing filters, updating the pool structure and rebalancing the water. The pool usually closes for only about two weeks in winter; this longer closure covers most of the Culver City High School girls' water polo season, and team members appeared at the council meeting to protest.

The city's FY2026-27 capital budget separately lists a Plunge vessel resurfacing and pool deck replacement/repair project budgeted at $610,188. Specific operating arrangements around the closures follow the schedule published by the city's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.
