Two people have now been confirmed dead in the head-on collision that occurred on the afternoon of October 22 in Temecula, a city in Riverside County, California. The crash happened on State Route 79, known locally as Temecula Parkway, near Horizon View Street, where a white SUV and a truck carrying lift equipment collided head-on.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatch entries show the collision was reported at about 2:39 p.m., blocking both eastbound and westbound lanes. CHP issued a SigAlert and closed all lanes. As of 6:29 p.m., CHP entries still showed all lanes closed and recorded two fatalities.

According to reports citing CHP information, the SUV was destroyed and caught fire after the collision, and both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims have not been identified, and their genders have not been released. The truck driver got out of his rig without assistance, sustained minor injuries and declined an ambulance, reports said. He was also unnamed.

CHP is investigating which vehicle entered opposing traffic and why. No conclusion has been released. This story follows GSM's earlier initial report on the crash with the confirmed death toll and injury information.
