Charlotte Updates Affordable Housing Funding Policy, Directing at Least $25 Million to Transit Corridors

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — The Charlotte City Council in October updated the city's Affordable Housing Funding Policy, the framework governing how Charlotte invests its $125 million housing bond in Mecklenburg County.
The revised policy creates a Mobility+ anti-displacement funding structure, under which at least $25 million must go to affordable housing along transit corridors, locking in below-market homes near stations before transit investment pushes land prices higher and displaces existing residents.
City officials say developers seeking city gap financing will apply under the new standards as further bond tranches are issued. Charlotte has grown rapidly in recent years with steep rent increases, and how the housing bond money is divided has been a recurring council debate. (GSM, based on local media reporting)
