Miami Approves $2.81 Million Budget Increase for New City Administration Building Now Topping $241 Million

Friday, October 23, 2026 · City · GSM News

MIAMI, Florida — The Miami City Commission voted on October 22 to add $2.81 million to the authorized budget for the new city administration building, funded by a payment from utility FPL for a substation easement. The commission also authorized a $2.22 million payment to FPL to route the building's power supply underground in Miami-Dade County.

The building's budget has climbed from an original $150 million to more than $241 million. It is rising inside the 130-acre Miami Freedom Park, which also includes Inter Miami's new stadium. The eight-story building will hold 257,000 square feet of offices and a garage of about 900 spaces; construction began last year and completion is expected in 2027.

During debate, Commissioner Miguel Angel Gabela voiced reservations about the escalating cost. The building will consolidate city administrative departments; no decision has been announced for the current city hall site. (GSM, based on reporting by The Center Square)
