Chicago's Largest Building Permit Last Week: $94M for Fire Stadium Enclosure at The 78

CHICAGO, Illinois — In Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, industry data published on October 22 show that the city's largest new-construction permit issued last week was the $94 million enclosure package for the Chicago Fire's new stadium at 1331 South Wells Street in the South Loop. The four-story stadium is part of the $750 million new home being built with investment from club owner Joe Mansueto, founder of Morningstar — to be clear, the $94 million is the cost of this single enclosure permit, while $750 million is the overall stadium investment. The stadium will anchor "The 78," Related Midwest's redevelopment of a former rail-yard site, a mixed-use project expected to reach about $8 billion, designed by Gensler. Other large permits the same week include the conversion of an office building at 500 North Michigan Avenue into 320 residential apartments ($71.7 million).
