SEATTLE, Washington — The Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP), in Seattle, King County, Washington, held its annual Icons of Pop Culture benefit gala on the evening of Thursday, October 22 at the museum, bringing together cultural figures, donors and community members, with proceeds supporting the museum's exhibitions, education programs and collections care. This year's honorees were actor Kumail Nanjiani and, as an institution, the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle's Chinatown-International District; the museum's exhibition "Be Water, My Friend," on Bruce Lee's philosophy, was also honored at the gala. The Wing Luke Museum is a pan-Asian American museum whose exhibitions and programs present the history and present of Asian American communities. Founded in 2000 by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, MOPOP sits next to the Space Needle and is known for its rock, sci-fi and pop culture collections.
