Falcons' Throwback Logo Post Sparks Nazi-Era Comparisons; Team Swaps Image, Denies New Logo

A social media post by the NFL's Atlanta Falcons of their throwback logo on a red, white, gold and black striped background caused a stir online, with many replies noting its resemblance to symbols from Nazi Germany, the Associated Press reported on October 23. The October 21 post was viewed more than 15 million times; the team replaced its profile picture with a red-helmet image on October 22.
A team representative said the Falcons do not have a new logo and declined further comment; an NFL spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday. The widely panned striped background is not part of the throwback helmets or uniforms.
The Falcons host the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers (6-0) on Sunday wearing 1966-inspired throwback uniforms featuring the club's 1989–2002 primary logo. Team owner Arthur Blank is Jewish and has supported Holocaust remembrance causes through the Molly Blank Fund, named for his mother, including a $1.5 million donation to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2023. Atlanta enters the game at 2-4.
