Record Great Lakes Cruise Season: $310 Million Impact, 25,000 Passengers in 2026

Tourism officials from across the Great Lakes region gathered in Detroit, Michigan, on the morning of October 22 to announce a record-breaking 2026 Great Lakes cruise season, which generated $310 million in economic impact — above the $300 million projected.
Passenger numbers reached 25,000 (versus 23,000 projected) and port visits 880 (versus 800 projected), with almost 95 percent of itineraries sold out. The briefing was held at the Waterview Lofts event center at the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority's headquarters, near where American Cruise Lines' 130-passenger American Patriot was docked.
Sally Davis Berry, tourism director for Cruise the Great Lakes, said 2026 was another record-breaking year for cruising in the region, with more passengers and port visits meaning higher shoreside spending. Also speaking were port operations director John Jamian, Visit Detroit senior communications director Brett McWethy, Travel Michigan vice president Kelly Wolgamott and American Patriot captain Jerry Smith.
