Florida Races Tighten: Poll Shows Governor, Senate Contests Within 2 to 4 Points

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

Florida's 2026 races have tightened. A new University of North Florida (UNF) Public Opinion Research Lab poll shows Republican Donalds leading Democrat Jolly 49 to 47 percent in the governor's race, and Moody leading Nixon 49 to 45 percent in the U.S. Senate race — both margins notably narrower than the 5- and 8-point leads recorded in July.

The poll surveyed 1,471 voters from October 12 to 19, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.81 percentage points.

On October 23, Jolly and Nixon rallied at Florida A&M University's (FAMU) homecoming festivities before a crowd of more than 1,000, while President Trump campaigned for Donalds in southwest Florida the same day. Pollster Freeder compared the tightening race to the close 2018 Gillum–DeSantis contest.
