PERRY POINT, Maryland — Governor Wes Moore announced on October 23 that the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has closed financing for Phase II of the HELP Perry Point Veterans Village in Perryville, Cecil County. The department will administer more than $23 million to add 77 new homes, more than doubling the number of homes in the community. The village sits on the campus of the Perry Point VA Medical Center and provides permanent supportive housing for veterans and their families who are at risk of, or have experienced, homelessness. The approximately $23 million, administered by the department's Community Development Administration, includes funding from federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity, the HOME Investment Partnerships American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) program, and bond financing. The community is supported primarily by solar power, and the department also provided funds to ensure its continued energy efficiency. "To honor their sacrifice and their service, Maryland's veterans deserve the highest level of care and support, and that includes a roof over their head," Governor Moore said. "This investment will functionally double the number of homes at HELP Perry Point Veterans Village, expanding access to stable housing and supportive services for veterans and their families threatened by homelessness." DHCD Secretary Jake Day said: "Housing is a human right. No one in Maryland should have to experience homelessness, especially our veterans who sacrificed for this country." Source: GSM·America
