Collins Pushes to Expand Tariff Exemption List in Letters to Greer, Lutnick

U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine is pressing the federal government to broaden tariff exemptions. In letters to U.S. Trade Representative Greer and Commerce Secretary Lutnick, she asked that nine categories of products important to Maine industries be added to the exemption list.
Collins has previously secured tariff exemptions for Maine on products including pulp, road salt and cement. Her letters argue that higher prices for imported inputs are adding to cost burdens for Maine manufacturers, builders and local governments.
Tariff exclusions are decided through a federal administrative process; Collins's office said it will keep working with the USTR and the Commerce Department on the request.
