Ground Broken on Platte–Winner Missouri River Bridge, South Dakota's Longest

Ground was broken on October 22 for the Platte–Winner bridge over the Missouri River in South Dakota. Governor Larry Rhoden said at the ceremony that the new bridge will be the longest in the state, with a 100-year design life.
The project carries an estimated cost of about $290 million, with construction running from 2027 to 2031, according to South Dakota Searchlight. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Administrator Sean McMaster attended, along with Senators Thune and Rounds and Representative Johnson.
When the original bridge opened in 1966, school bands from Platte and Winner performed on the span — a tradition recalled at the ceremony. The state Department of Transportation (SDDOT) said the new bridge will substantially improve travel across the Missouri River.
