UW–Madison Wins Approval for $338 Million Residence Hall Opening in 2029

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

The University of Wisconsin–Madison won approval on October 22 for a new residence hall. The $338 million project will provide about 1,700 beds and a 400-seat dining facility, with opening planned for fall 2029.

The university enrolled 3,920 new Wisconsin freshmen this year, and its existing residence halls are running at 115 percent of capacity, making first-year housing a long-standing pressure point.

University officials said the new hall will significantly ease the undergraduate housing shortage and support continued enrollment growth. The project now moves into design and construction procurement.
