Arizona Man Pleads Guilty in Monkey 'Crush Video' Conspiracy, DOJ Announces October 23

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on October 23 that Ernest Chavez of Arizona has pleaded guilty to conspiring to create and distribute so-called animal crush videos. The department said Chavez admitted conspiring to make and distribute videos depicting extreme violence and sexual abuse against monkeys.

The Justice Department announced last year that Chavez was among 11 people indicted over such videos; three others, from Connecticut and North Carolina, have also pleaded guilty. Court documents show the conspirators gathered in Telegram groups to discuss topics for planned torture videos, then funneled money through online payment apps to individuals in Indonesia willing to carry out the abuse on camera.

An Ohio man identified as one of the video sources was previously sentenced to 108 months in prison. Authorities did not announce a sentencing date for Chavez.
