Former Tennessee Star Dalton Knecht Signs With New York Knicks

Former Tennessee star Dalton Knecht is signing a two-way contract with the New York Knicks, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on October 23. The 6-foot-6 wing was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers just four days earlier.
The Lakers waived Knecht on October 19, the day before the 2026-27 season began, to cut the roster to 15, after being unable to reach a deal to trade him. During the 2024-25 season, Los Angeles almost traded Knecht in a package with Cam Reddish to the Charlotte Hornets for center Mark Williams, but rescinded the trade after Williams failed a physical.
Knecht was selected 17th overall by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft, the highest-drafted player under Tennessee coach Rick Barnes. He was the 2024 SEC Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American. In his second season with the Lakers he averaged 4.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in 10.2 minutes per game. He now joins the reigning champion Knicks.
