Massillon Football Eligibility Case Heads to Ohio Supreme Court

The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) filed a complaint with the Ohio Supreme Court on October 23 challenging the eligibility of Massillon Washington High School football brothers Brayton and Brydon Feister, on the eve of the Tigers' matchup against McKinley.
According to The Canton Repository, OHSAA attorney Joseph Fraley asked the Supreme Court to issue a stay on the 5th District Court of Appeals' October 16 ruling, which declared the Feister brothers eligible, and to prohibit the appeals court from taking further action on the matter. If the Supreme Court issues a stay, the Feisters would again be ruled ineligible, as they were when the Stark County Common Pleas judge ruled on October 9. There is no timeline for when the Supreme Court could make a ruling.
The dispute started after the association denied the family's request for an exception to the transfer rules, determining the family's move into the school district was driven by the brothers' desire to transfer from Archbishop Hoban rather than a residential move that necessitated the transfer. Brayton, a senior committed to Oregon, and Brydon, a highly ranked defensive end recruit as a junior, were among six Massillon players whose eligibility became the subject of a legal dispute.
