FDA Posts Recall of More Than 44,000 Great Value Fruit Cocktail Cans Sold at Walmart Over Possible Lead Contamination

Friday, October 23, 2026 · Life · GSM News

A recall notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shows that Great Value brand fruit cocktail cans sold at Walmart stores are being recalled over possible lead contamination, with 44,064 cans affected. The recall was initiated by the cans' producer, California-based Pacific Coast Producers. The FDA has classified the ongoing recall as Class II, meaning consumption of or exposure to the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.

The affected product is the 15-ounce Great Value Fruit Cocktail in Fruit Juice from Concentrate, bearing lot code 6FCB 04 C2263 and a "best if used by" date of September 1, 2027. The recall was prompted by the possibility that the cans contain elevated levels of lead. Lead is a toxic metal that can cause serious health problems when consumed, with the concern greater for children and pregnant women.

According to the FDA notice, the cans were distributed to Walmart stores in seven states: Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wyoming. The notice gives consumers two options: return the product to Walmart or dispose of it safely. Walmart and Pacific Coast Producers did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.
