New Orleans Mayor Moreno Lists Services Tied to Millage Renewal, From Shelters to Sanitation

The City of New Orleans, Louisiana, has published the list of services it would prioritize restoring and protecting if the City Council approves a property tax (millage) renewal, including low-barrier shelters, the Right to Counsel legal aid program, non-curbside sanitation, post-Mardi Gras parade cleanup, parks and green-space mowing, the Office of Community Engagement, Fire Department staffing, and New Orleans Police Department civilian staff and traffic-crash response.
The city has also posted a property tax calculator on its website (nola.gov/millages) so residents can see how the renewal would affect their own tax bills.
The announcement comes as the administration's proposed 2027 budget totals $763 million, with more than 150 positions to be cut to close a gap of about $110 million; Mayor Moreno and First Deputy Mayor Joe Giarrusso have taken voluntary 10 percent pay cuts.
