Follow-Up: ICE Issues Statement on Mount Morris Arrest: Chinese National Ordered Removed in 1999, Held Pending Removal

Friday, October 23, 2026 · Society · GSM News

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a statement on its October 20 arrest in Mount Morris, New York, saying the Chinese national taken into custody is named Sin Di Ling: an immigration judge ordered him removed as far back as 1999, and he has lived and worked illegally in the United States for more than 25 years; he remains in ICE custody pending removal.

WYSL reported on October 21 (originally WHEC) that the ICE statement said Ling had entered the United States at an unknown place on an unknown date and had "enjoyed the benefits of living and working (illegally) in the U.S. for more than 25 years." ICE added in the statement that the United States is offering unauthorized immigrants $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport.

GSM previously reported that the owner of a Chinese restaurant in Mount Morris, Dian Zhao Lin, was taken into custody by ICE officers on October 20 while heading to work with his wife, with the town's mayor and community members rallying behind the family; ICE did not at the time announce the reason for taking him. The name spelling in ICE's statement (Sin Di Ling) differs from the name reported by local media (Dian Zhao Lin). (GSM, from WYSL/WHEC and the ICE statement)
