Iran's Army Chief Hatami Says Military Ready for Asymmetric Warfare, Drones at "Relatively Mature" Level

TEHRAN — The commander-in-chief of Iran's Islamic Republic Army, Hatami, said on October 22 that Iran's military is equipped and ready for asymmetric warfare, and has reached a "relatively mature level" in drones. According to Xinhua, Hatami made the remarks in statements on the day.

They come amid the ongoing U.S.-Iran standoff over the Strait of Hormuz: CENTCOM chief Adm. Brad Cooper said on October 16 that the naval blockade had cost Iran at least $25 billion in oil revenue, while an IRGC spokesman on October 19 pointed to undersea cables beneath the strait, saying "new targets" would be unveiled.

Hatami's remarks continue the Iranian military's recent hard-line tone, though no specific military operation was announced. (GSM, from Xinhua)
