Blackhawks Fall 4-1 to Canadiens; Bedard Scores but Kane's Assist Leaves Him Three Shy of 900

On the night of October 23, the Chicago Blackhawks, in Cook County, Illinois, lost 4-1 to the Montreal Canadiens at the United Center, their second straight defeat. Captain Connor Bedard opened the scoring at 4:23 of the first period with a wrist shot — his second goal of the season and the 77th of his career, tying Alex DeBrincat for sixth among Blackhawks scorers aged 21 or younger. Montreal then gradually took control, as Jake Evans scored twice and added an assist and Jacob Fowler made 20 saves. Bedard's goal was assisted by Patrick Kane, the 897th assist of Kane's career, leaving him three short of becoming the 21st player — and the first U.S.-born player — to reach 900 assists; Kane had just passed Phil Housley to become the all-time assists leader among U.S.-born players. Blackhawks goaltender Spencer Knight made 24 saves; Chicago is now 3-7.
