On the night of October 23, the Houston Rockets beat the San Antonio Spurs 114-110 at the Moody Center in Austin, Travis County, Texas, for their second straight win to open the season. Alperen Sengun scored a game-high 29 points, 14 of them in the fourth quarter; Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson each had 20, and Thompson added 10 rebounds. In the final five seconds, with the Spurs giving the ball to Victor Wembanyama to drive for a tying basket, Thompson leapt to block the shot, and Fred VanVleet then grabbed the rebound and made two free throws to seal the win. For San Antonio, Wembanyama had 25 points and 13 rebounds and Dylan Harper 20; the Spurs have opened 0-2, losing to Oklahoma City and Houston. The Rockets led by four after three quarters, fell behind in the fourth, and retook control behind Sengun's inside scoring. The game coincided with Formula 1's United States Grand Prix weekend, when Austin was at peak visitor volume.
