At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, New Orleans' official Halloween parade, the Krewe of BOO!, rolls through the French Quarter in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. According to the route published by the organizers, the parade starts on Elysian Fields Avenue, enters the French Quarter via North Peters Street, passes Jackson Square on Decatur Street, then heads down Canal Street into the Warehouse District, ending at Andrew Higgins Boulevard; viewing is free. According to the French Quarter's official events page, the parade, founded in 2007, features three-dimensional papier-mâché and fiberglass floats built by Kern Studios, famed for its Mardi Gras floats, and riders costumed as werewolves, ghosts and vampires will throw candy, glow beads, voodoo-doll pins and other keepsakes to the crowds; spectators are encouraged to come in Halloween costume. After the parade, the official after-party, Monster Mash, starts at 8 p.m. at Generations Hall. Earlier the same day, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the French Market district hosts the family Boo Carré Halloween trick-or-treat event.
