United Reportedly to Open New Flight Attendant Bases at Dallas-Fort Worth and Sacramento Early Next Year

On October 24, aviation media reported that United Airlines plans to open two new flight attendant bases, at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in Dallas County, Texas, and at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) in California, with both set to open early next year and DFW first. The news comes from a video announcement United posted on social media; the new bases would reportedly be smaller than its large hub bases and would bring United's total number of bases to 21. The move drew industry attention because DFW is American Airlines' home fortress, while United currently operates only 31 daily flights there, using gates E4 through E9 in Terminal E, each capable of supporting 10 to 12 flights a day, leaving room to grow. United's DFW flights serve hubs including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco and Washington, while it operates about 19 to 20 daily departures from Sacramento. Analysts say a Sacramento base would spare flight attendants in that area the long commute to San Francisco, and the DFW base leaves room for United to expand its footprint there in the future.
