Charlotte Gold Line Streetcar Suspended for Two and a Half Days From October 24 for Fall Maintenance, With No Shuttle Buses

The Charlotte Area Transit System announced on October 24 that the Gold Line streetcar in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, would suspend service from 2 a.m. that day for planned fall maintenance, with service expected to resume at 4 a.m. on October 26. During the shutdown, the Gold Line will be fully closed between French Street and the Interstate 77 overpass, with several lane closures as well; the transit system said the road closures make it impossible to run replacement shuttle buses. Riders can switch to nearby existing bus routes, while the Blue Line runs on its normal weekend schedule. The Gold Line is a key east-west link through downtown Charlotte, and the maintenance weekend coincides with several downtown events, so transit officials urge riders to plan ahead and allow extra transfer time. The work is part of the annual fall maintenance program to inspect and service track and equipment before winter. The agency did not publish a detailed list of work items but said it would notify riders as soon as service is restored.
