University of Tampa Names Pastides, President Emeritus of South Carolina, as Interim President

On October 24, the University of Tampa, in Hillsborough County, Florida, announced the appointment of Harris Pastides, president emeritus of the University of South Carolina, as interim president; he will gradually take over the president's duties over the remainder of the 2026 fall semester. According to the university's announcement on social media, Pastides will lead the school through the transition. Current president Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg, who took office in 2024, announced this month that she will step down, and the university gave no further details of her departure arrangements. Pastides led the University of South Carolina for many years and has remained active in higher education since retiring; bringing in such an experienced hand is seen as a steady choice for a smooth transition. The University of Tampa is a private university in downtown Tampa, and with the fall semester under way the school said the transition will not affect normal teaching. The interim appointment is set through the end of this semester, and the university has not yet announced when the search for a permanent president will begin.
