Steelers Activate Safety Elliott on October 24; Back After a Year to Face the Saints

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · City · GSM News

On October 24, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, announced the activation of safety DeShon Elliott from injured reserve to the 53-man roster, and he is expected to play on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Elliott suffered a serious knee and leg injury against the Green Bay Packers on October 26 last year that ended his season, and his road back has taken a full year. He returned at the start of training camp, but the team proceeded cautiously: he played one preseason game, then missed practice with soreness, and was placed on injured reserve at the late-August roster cuts. The team opened his practice window on October 8; his workload was limited for two weeks before he returned to full practice this week. Pittsburgh released veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins earlier this week, so no corresponding cut was needed for the activation. The team also elevated practice squad receivers Brandon Smith and Brandon Johnson to the game-day roster. Known for his physical style, Elliott returns after general manager Omar Khan emphasized the team waited for his full recovery to protect him; now he is finally back on the field.
