On First Day of Early Voting, Mayor Mamdani Casts His Ballot at the Met

Early voting in New York State began on Saturday, October 24, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani arrived early at the polling site at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side, in New York County, New York, to cast his ballot, bringing doughnuts for the poll workers. Mamdani said he voted for Governor Kathy Hochul's re-election on the Working Families Party line and was glad to keep campaigning for her. Hochul faces a challenge from Republican Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive; a Quinnipiac University poll reported by the New York Post on October 21 showed Hochul leading by about 14 points, 55 percent to 41 percent. A man who had just voted heckled Mamdani, shouting “Communist,” and the mayor replied wryly that he had only been called a communist once and that early voting takes five minutes. The same day, Blakeman campaigned at three stops in New York City, attacking the Mamdani-Hochul alliance and pledging to cut taxes and end the city's sanctuary status. With ten days left until Election Day on November 3, both parties' New York campaigns have entered the final stretch.
