Alaska Proposes Converting Conditional Alaska LNG Pipeline Lease to Final Lease: Comments Due Nov. 25

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · States · GSM News

Alaska Department of Natural Resources Commissioner John Crowther announced a proposal on Oct. 24 to convert the conditional right-of-way lease for the Alaska LNG pipeline into a final lease, finding that the state-owned gas development corporation is qualified, willing and able to hold the lease. The proposal is a land-stage step for the project, covering the pipeline corridor from the North Slope to Cook Inlet. The state also published a public participation schedule: written comments are due by 5 p.m. on Nov. 25, an online hearing will be held Nov. 23, and an in-person hearing will take place in Anchorage on Nov. 24. The proposal acknowledges unfinished items, including a still-draft highway use agreement with the state transportation department and unresolved issues on the west side of Cook Inlet involving two shore fishery leaseholders, a private landowner and a barge landing at a construction materials site; where construction restricts access to setnet sites, the developer has committed to negotiate alternative sites with leaseholders or compensate them for lost catch. Members of the public may comment on the lease conversion and the outstanding items to the state's oil and gas division before the deadline.
